Tips, Notes and Special remarks
  • Take some water when you go for the hike. There are few streams on the way but at some distance.
  • Some snacks would be needed
  • Bring back all plastic and polythene; do not put them here and there
  • Bamabarakanda fall is free of litter at the moment. Make sure it remains the same
  • Balangoda will be the last major town you pass by, so make sure you buy all what you need from Balangoda or Rathnapura
  • You don’t need a guide to go to the Bambarakanda falls and Lanka Ella. But For Lanka Ella ask the route from a local person and Do exactly as they say. Beyond Lanka Ella you may need a guide

  • A Three Day Trip to Bambarakanda & Aluthwewa

Our journey started from around 4.30 p.m in and we proceeded directly to our destination Kalupana around 10.30p.m.

Following day early morning we came to Kalupahana Junction and took a left turn towards the Bamabarakanda(Between 172 -173 km ). After proceeding about 4.5 km we had the 1st sight of the Bambarakanda fall at a distance.

Finally we reached the top of Bambarakanda waterfall. There was another smaller waterfall cascading down into a pool at the summit. The flow from this pool then headed off into sheer space and as it began its descent formed the start of the Bambarakanda waterfall. It felt great to stand at the top of Sri Lanka’s highest waterfall and to enjoy the spectacular views all around.
