Rail hike from Nattandiya to Chilaw – 21 Km
I did not have a desire to do a rail hike along Puttlam line though it is very close to my home but, I tempted to do it by seeing the photos of Ashan’s rail hike from Chilaw to Puttlam. |
වෙරළ දිගේ 2 – Walk along the beach from Godawaya to Kalametiya – 10 Km
After passing about one year from my 1st beach walk I thought of doing another because, I wanted to have a change and diversify my traveling portfolio. Even though, the total length around our Country along the beach is about 1600+ km it was bit difficult to select a definite stretch but, finally decided to walk 10km from Godawaya to Kalametiya along Southern coastal border. |
Anawilundawa Cleanup Project
Finally, I decided to write up this report specially thanking Ashan for reminding me and for his eagerness to see this. In my view, this is the time that our Mother Nature is facing a real challenge of surviving from the people who have no heart to give back for the things they gained from her. |

I had never heard about this place until I visit Werapola kanda which is situated in between Wariyapola & Kurunegala. On the way towards Nathagane Mountain in August 2016, Ashan & I saw Werapola Mountain, then paid attention to that as a warm up hike & when on the top of Werapola we noticed a small peak with a pagoda on the top of it in Wariyapola side, from then both of us keen to know about this small peak. |
Our way, on the way, along railway – on foot from Haputale to Ohiya
Lahiru joined me at Fort railway station around 7.15 p.m. on Friday evening and waited till Badulla bound night mail train arrives to the flat foam. Soon after the train came around 7.30 p.m. we got in and were able to grab 2 seats. Being at the railway station in advance allowed us not to experience the difficulty of going standing specially in the night for long time. The train left Colombo at 8.15 p.m. and reached Haputale around 6.00 in the morning. After having a rest for a few minutes, we headed towards Ohiya. |
Elephants at Kaudulla reminded me mammoths

I took the 138 bus from Colombo at 6 a.m & reached homagama at around 7.30 a.m. Lahiru was waiting at Homagama town till I come. After having breakfast we started the journey from homagama station around 8.00 a.m. Though this was the very first rail hike in our life, we determined to do whatever it takes to make it a success. |
