Uda Radella (2143m) to Great Western (2215m), conquering two giants
We have planned a journey for covering 5 main giants in Nuwaraeliya in 3 days. And we were able to conquer Mahakudugala (2101m), Single Tree (2105m) and Kikiliyamana (2242) on the first day and we spend the night near the entrance of Uda Radella farm and on the second day, we conquer Uda Radella (2143m) and Great Western (2215m) successfully. Since Madusanka lives in Nuwaraeliya, he was able to take the oral permission to enter the Uda Radella farm and we found a kind person who works there and he told us some details about this forest and the leopards. And he switched off the electric fence and we crossed it and headed to Great Western through a giant forest. We had a GPS route and we followed it always and able to reach the Great Western viewpoint without any difficulty. |
The incomplete destination nearby Sudugala Mountain
Sudugala Mountain was a dream of me since we did our Duwili Falls hike. Then we planned this hike with a group of my friends and we contacted Ekanayake uncle as our guide. He promised us to take to the top of the Sudugala mountain but unfortunately, when we came to the Sudugala Bungalow he said that he was not been there in his lifetime. Then we had to climb that mountain by using GPS but since he didn’t tell us this issue I even not pre-downloaded the google maps of this range. |

This the beginning of the SOBASIRI TEAM which is the combination of Me, Akila, and Malith, and later we welcomed Nirosh and Madusanka in 2014. Magnificent 360° scenery at Kallebokka Viewpoint
Kallebokka 3600 viewpoint (height: 1,175m) became a trending destination after it was promoted by a certain TV programme. The summit is located right on the border of Matale and Kandy districts and shares the same ridge that forms Hathale min-worlds end and Hunnasgiriya mountain. The said ridge extends to the north and joins with western massif of Knuckles. On a clear day, visitors can observe Central Highlands, Kandy City, Sembuwatte lake and Knuckles Mountains. |
Visit to Pathahawatte Raja Maha Viharaya
The temple is now known as Sri Pushkararama Rajamaha Viharaya at Pathahawatte, Kothalawela is certainly an important piece of Raigampura Heritage – and not just for its religious significance. Reachable by taking the right turn at ‘Kotalawela junction’ – near the 11th-kilometer post on Panadura-Horana Road, the entire land of the temple of 12 Hectares (5 acres), an archeological reserve since 1970, is surrounded by a huge wall of kabook. It is 2 meters wide and the height varies between 2 -3 meters. Given the depth of the foundation, the original height could have been easily twice of that. This wall dates back to either Kotte or Gampola period. |
