Alagiyawanna Falls, Algama Falls & Alawala Devin penna Falls(?)

This time I was wondering about Gampaha district in search of two waterfalls said to exist by the LCWF web site! So decided to go to Alwala Devin Penna Ella which has a historic importance to reach Alawala one needs to take the first road to the right when traveling towards Pasyala from Aththanagalla, this road is well carpeted and the ride is very enjoyable specially because it runs through many Rubber estates! After reaching Ataudakanada we started inquiring about this waterfall but we were surprised because people said there is no such waterfall called Devin Penna Ella

Camping trip to Meemure – One of the best trips ever!!!

We started our trip from Colombo at about 5 a.m. And we came to Kandy at about 8 a.m. We had our breakfast from a little restaurant but to be honest it was a horrible meal. After that we got in to a bus which goes on the rout ” Kandy – Udu Dumbara”. Also you can go to Hunnasgiriya by a “Mahiyangana” bus. we were in Hunnasgiriya when it was 12.30 p.m. We had our lunch there. It was awesome. They have two vans which go to Meemure everyday. only two vans. They come to Hunnasgiriya in the morning and leave at about 1.30. So we got in to one of those vans.

Trip to the Southern Hill Country

This was a family trip with other families of my father’s friends joining in. We started from Galle and proceeded via the Galle road up to Waskaduwa (Kalutara) and turned to Bandaragama and then took the route to Ratnapura. The first destination was Kirindi Ella near Pelmadulla. The road up to where the staircase leading to the base of the fall starts was not great but acceptable. The water level was probably just right and it was absolutely deserted. :-) Also the vicinity of the fall was unspoilt thankfully.

Exploring the forgotten Kingdom of Dambadeniya

Dambadeniya is located in Kurunegala district, hiding a ruined ancient city. It has been the capital for more than five decades in ancient Sri Lanka. Much of the ancient city is still lied burring on a huge fortified rock. Dambadeniya was the third capital in ancient Sri Lanka. (1233 – 1283 A.D.) It was crowned by four kings. The pioneer King Wijayabahu-III (1233 – 1236 A.D), builds his royal palace on the rock at Dambadeniya & converted it to the capital of the country in 1233 A.D.

Waterfalls of Colombo District

It was one of our spontaneous trips which we never had time to plan properly even! And guess what all the waterfalls were on the same bus route! Any how it was in our list to do’s! Three of us met at Puwakpitiya junction at around 8.30a.m. And had some breakfast and off we went! Luckily we got a bus that goes to Padukka via Thunmodara, so we got in to it and got off at Dambora(10Km away from Puwakpitiya) right near the waterfall! This 10 meter cascade is about 1Km away from Thunmodara bridge near Labugama reservoir and Labugam kanda(Highest mountain of Colombo district).

Explore the beauty of seven water falls (ඇළි හත) – Ihala-Maliboda (Udamaliboda), Deraniyagala

I would like to thanks our two guides “Gopal” and “Kalu Ayya” who gave remarkable help to us to make success this journey. I believe this information would be helpful for people who are planning and willing to go to visit Ali-Hatha (seven water falls). I have a kind request from those people; you may go, visit these places and enjoy your self, but please do respect to these places and keep it for our future generations

Uda Maliboda(Deraniyagala) & Erathna trails to Adams Peak

This was a trail that I was looking forward to do since I have done the other two main routes previously (Palabathgala & Hatton). All started when we met on 21st of march where I got to know many members of Lakdasun out of them Amal who is a member came up to me and asked me “are you planning to do the Uda Maliboda trail?” so that was the initiative for this journey! :-) .

Trip to Alupola Ella, Ambewela & Bambarakanda Ella

This was a family trip to Bandarawela. We traveled Rathnapura to Balangoda via Wewelwattha to see Dehena, Alupola and Beruwatta waterfalls. Second day we visited Adisham Bungalow and Thangamale sanctuary. Third day we visited Horton plains, New Zealand farm and Hakgala gardens. Last day we visited Bambarakanda falls on the way to home.

Exploring the East based in Ganthalawa, a village past Kanthale

Outward bound:6.05 am train from Colombo Fort. A long long train which seemed to be going everywhere – Anuradhapura, Pollonaruwa, Batticaloa, Trincomalee…so make sure you sit in the correct carriage or your destination may change! Real great fun was watching the train ‘change tracks’ at the Polgahawela, Mahawa, etc. After the Anuradhapura carriages were detached, we suddenly found ourselves at the end of the train rather than the middle

Visit to the Mini world’s end at Passara – Cokagala (Cocogalla)

The by-road started from the junction at Lunugala Police station, turned in to a hilly & narrow one within the first kilometer in distance. Condition of the road was acceptable because it had been repaired recently. Having climbing the hill, we came to a place known as Janathapura, a small village on a gap of two ranges of mountains. Janathapura was a three way junction. There were two roads at the western face of the range. (We came from the Eastern face).

The Beauty of Sinharaja Waterfalls

This was a trip we went to see the waterfalls near Sinharaja border. The crew is consisting of different age groups. We leave Colombo in morning and reach Neluwa in afternoon. First we went to see the “Kosmulla Dhuwili Ella”. For this you have to take left turn at bridge over Gin River about a kilometer before Neluwa town. This waterfall has three levels and there are steps leading to top of the waterfall. So we climbed to the top.

Hidden beauty on top of Diyaluma, Pilkington & Millennium Point’s of Poonagala hills

This is actually a trip we went after reading Priyanjan’s post. We left Colombo on an evening to get to Bandarawela by night but unfortunately the bus broke down at Diyathalawa so we had a 4Km practice hike in the dark :-) We spent the night at Bandarawela rest house. Next day morning we left early and got in to a Poonagala bus which left Bandarawela at 7a.m, the route was through the tea estates and the view was also great
