Hiking Hanthana Range within a Day

Hanthana is the most popular hiking place among University students. Normally Social Trips and Batch trips are planned to hanthana due to less travelling time. It is my long term dream to hike Hanthana. With the aid of trip reports on Hanthana in Lakdasun we planned this trip.

Ridiyagama safari park a novel experience

Ridiyagama Safari Park was declared open in March 2016. Construction of the project started in 2008 and first phase was completed at a cost of Rs.2,600 Million and opened for public on 28.03.2016.

කාලිංග නුවර සොයා (Hidden city of Kalinga island)

Kalinga Island is located in the center of Mahaweli River at the boarder of the Wasgamuwa NP & it consists of 7 islands. The main island harbours ruins of a forgotten era. It’s said that princes of Kalinga sailed upstream along Mahaweli River to the interior of the country and this mini island was once believed to be their ship manufacturing yard.

Beautiful Narangamuwa

Narangamuwa is a beautiful village which situated at Knuckles region and at the base of mighty Lakegala. The mortable approach to Narangamuwa is from Dambulla-Pallegama side but it is connected nearby villages such as Meemure, Ranamure via foot pathways. I have been there more than three times and this is a fair attempt to describe beautiful places of Narangamuwa.

A One Day Trip of Katina Pinkama at “Weduwa Aranya” in Koggala

We start our journey on Sunday 4.30 a.m & we reached to Koggala around 6.00 a.m. First we went to see Aranya premises. It was situated in very beautiful place & surround by river.

Consecutive hikes to off Season Sri Pada and Bopaththalawa

This was my 11th visit to Sri pada and third off season hike. No matter how often I visit this sacred mountain I never get enough as this Sri pada Sanctuary is the best place on earth by means of bio Diversity and uniqueness.

Back to Yahangala (1220m)

Yahangala/bed rock is the mountain with unique shape of a bed situated at eastern edge of Knuckles massif. This rock related to Rawana legend. King Rawana’s body was kept here for last respect following he became unconsciousness by arrow flew by Rama’s bow.

Lakegala – The Ultimate Rock Climbing Adventure in the Heartland of Ravana’s Kingdom

So me, with 3 of my friends – Ashan, Chinthaka and Dinuka – packed our bags and departed to Nava maama’s place in Meemure on 20th April with cheerful minds. Much to our dismay, a heavy shower started in the evening of 20th, shattering all our dreams of making it to the summit. Nava maama casted a totally negative outlook of tomorrow’s proceedings, as it could be observed that streams of water sliding down the Western face of Lakegala, from where we are supposed to climb. Nevertheless we insisted on going as far as we could, and Nava maama had no other option but to agree J Next day we started the journey from Meemure with the guide introduced by him, Chanaka, and reached the base of the rocky surface after nearly a 5 hour struggle. It was clear to us that any attempt to proceed further would be suicidal. Such a venture would only result in consolidation of the already established opinion that Lakegala is a deadly peak. I am not going to further elaborate on our first attempt to climb Lakegala, since our second and the successful attempt also covers the same details up to this point. Only difference here was that the climb required extra energy due to forest patch being infested with leeches and rocky surface being extra slippery.

Tour De Haputale

In childhood I heard that song “Haputal Api Yanawa”. Ever since I want to go to Haputale. I should admit Haputale is very scenic place although people do not visit Haputale as much as some other over rated places. It is a small town with plenty of places to accommodate. You can reach Haputale by bus or train if you use public transport.

Full blown Kota Ganga Falls

Kota Ganga Fall is a cascade of six+ waterfalls flows from Thangappuwa to Kota Ganga village in Knuckles area. I have trekked from Corbet’s gap to Thangappuwa and enjoyed the beauty of full spectrum of Kota Ganga Falls.

Punagala Estate – Journey to Discover Your Paradise

After went through some trip reports in Lakdasun forum, finally we decided to visit this remarkable estate which locates in Banadarawela area.

Lakegala (1494m)-Mountain of two peaks

Lakegala might be the most popular mountain from Knuckles peaks. This has two peaks but everyone knows about the classic peak at Meemure village side. This is my experince to visit at both peaks of Lakegala.
