Yala – Blooming and Teaming with Life!

We reached Thalgasmankada Bungalow at around 2.30 p.m. We learnt that we were the first party to stay there after it was closed about two years back following an LTTE attack on the army camp which used to be there in front of the bungalow. Until lunch was ready, we walked around the bungalow and spent some time at the river which was almost overflowing.

Trip to Trincomalee and the East coast

We continued on this towards Verugal, hardly any traffic, people or shops on this route. Good idea to have plenty of drinking water, juice, fresh fruits to quench your thirst because one can drink a lot. As it’s hot and humid in this part of no mans land. Sri Lanka has the natural beauty no matter, wherever you may travel and this Mutur – Verugal route is no exception. Continuing along the way enjoy the scenery, assortment of scrubland, marshes, forest patches, rocks, Palmyra groves, reservoir, streams and the lush green vegetation with herds of feeding cattle, displaying a unique beauty of its own. This road has been newly constructed and the old ferries have been replaced with new bridges, some stretches extending 5 to15 Km. had got badly affected due heavy rains in September, as the carpeting has not been laid, the top fill earth has washed away, leaving huge pot holes. That driving through these stretches avoiding the ruts and potholes needs patience and skill. After driving through a never ending nerve wrecking journey finally we reached Valachchenai for a well deserved lunch.

Kebaliththa (Kebiliththa) Devalaya

If I explain to you the very little I know about the devalaya, this place is considered very sacred by devotees of God Katharagama . They believe that the God’s present staying place is the ‘Maha Siyambalawa Devalaya’ (Kebaliththa). I’m too believe that without any doubt. There are so many ‘Haskam’ which I cannot explain here. People at Kotiyagala respect this place very strongly and they are even scared to deal with this place. So I listened to their word and prepared my self as per the customs which they told that we have to follow.

Trip to Jaffna, Nagadeepa

The journey beyond this we could witness the scars of war, huge stretches of Area marked with red tape indicating uncleared land mines, army camps strategically Placed. Our next stop was Kilinochchi, we toured the town and suburbs to explore ,I leave to the readers to their imagination what it would have been like just 17 Months ago.It was getting dark we headed to Jaffna, was around 9.00 we reached Our guest house.

Trip to Wasgomuwa National Park

We stopped at a night hotel somewhere near Nittambuwa as two of my friends were out of dinner and drove up to Dambulla without stopping. We re-fueled from Damdulla around 3.00 am and drove to Pallegama. We stopped in a night tea shop somewhere near Pallegama to have a cup of tea. We arrived at the Park Entrance at around 5.45 am and proceeded to the bungalow after completing the formalities at the entrance office.

Misty mountains via Illukkumbura

Knuckles mountain range has been a paradise for me since the first time I visited there via Deanston in 2009. The breathtaking surroundings, strong cool winds and challenging hikes had been tempting me to visit there again and as a result I decided to visit Knuckles again in the following year from Illukkumbura side. The story of our unforgettable journey is as follows

Family trip to Ella in January

Ella has always been a fascinating place for me and it is no wonder that we decided to go there again for the third time in 18 months to have a nice and quiet getaway with the family. We booked the Grand Ella Motel (GEM) which is operated by the Ceylon Hotel Corporation well in advance as Ella becomes a popular spot for tourists during the winter season.

TRIP TO POTHUVIL (POTTUVIL) AND DOWNWARDS

We started after dinner, from Maharagama around 10.00 pm and reached Udawalawa Dam by 2.00 am. The barrier was closed. However after checking our credentials, they allowed us to pass through with a warning about the bad road condition. Closing the Dam at 10.00 pm seems to be a formality now.The road condition from Udawalawa to Thanamalwila was really bad. It was under construction and it took nearly 2 hours to pass that stretch. Our 5th member was to join us at Okkampitiya. We reached Buttala by early morning and reached his home for breakfast.

Bomburu Ella, Ohiya & Horton Plains

Started our journey from kaduwela at around 6.30am only stopping for breakfast at kuruwita. It was time to get our cameras out for the first time at the first attraction for the day being surathalie ella. After having lunch at Welimada we proceeded towards Bomburu ella. The condition of the road from Welimada to Bomburu ella was not in a good state.. It took us about 1 hour to travel the approx. distance of 15km from welimada but it was definitely worthwhile since one of the most beautiful waterfalls that I have seen was awaiting us in its’ magnificent splendor…

Beauty of the south – Kahandamodara, Kalametiya, Ussangoda and surroundings

The north-east monsoon was being highly uncooperative. With no consideration whatsoever of our holiday plans, it started battering our planned destinations – the ancient capitals of the North Central – with unusual volumes of rain, forcing us to cancel and rethink our family trip. Hoping for better weather and determined to go somewhere before the holidays ended, we decided to head down south. These are highlights of our three-day trip to yet another fascinating part of beautiful Sri Lanka.

Trip to Mahiyanganaya and Badulla visiting 5 reservoirs, 5 temples and 5 waterfalls

We planned this trip to visited Victoria, Randenigala, Loggal Oya and Sorabora Wewa dams, Mahiyanganaya, Nagadeepa, Muthiyangana, Bogoda and Buduruwagala temples, and Dunhinda, Rawana Ella, Diyaluma, Bambarakanda and Kirindi Ella waterfalls. We started form Kandana at about 4.30 in the morning. The crew was three in a car. I was driving the car. We took about 25lts of water with all other belongings

A Three Day Trip to Galoya National Park

This is the trip report from the visit to Galoya National Park, Nilgala, Makare, Ekgaloya, Ambalanoya tank, Pannalagama tank, Kumbukgolla, Bakmitiyawa, Siyambalanduwa. We started form the suburbs of Colombo at about 6.00 in the morning. There were 11 adults and a 7yr old child (3 families and 5 bachelors) in a Land Cruiser and two double cabs.
