Chariot Path of Ravana & Sitha on top of Piduruthalagala range and James Taylor’s Loolecondera!

Yahangala prompted me to go through few Ravana documentaries and important places related to the legend; though I’m not a blind believer I think he was one of the greatest kings in Sri Lanka. While going through some articles I came across a site called chariot path which urged me to pay a visit someday because of the unusual location of it.

In and around Lunugamwehera, Kumana & Kabelittha (සියඹලාව දේවාලය)

Camping at Meemure

This was my 3rd visit to Meemure and this was after 6 years of the 2nd visit. When I had my first visit in 2004, it was the time that Meemure was getting popular with ‘සූරිය අරණ’ film. In those days it was a village which was hardly developed. That means there was only a single vehicle to the entire village and we could see people carrying goods by ‘තවලම’.

In and around Panama, Kumana & Kudimbigala

Three days in Peak Wilderness – Walking Dehenakanda-Mukkuwaththa and Rajamale – Sandagalathenna trails to Sri Pada

Few months ago myself and Mithila got together and thought of doing the last two remaining trails of Sripada which were Dehena kanda/Hapugastenna trail and Morray/Rajamale estate foot path. We intentionally postponed this journey to march hoping that the path would be cleared off by then. This was a long awaited dream for me and this year it came true. This time our group was a huge one comprising 7 Lakdasun members and others been Theshantha’s family members. I knew this was going to be a unique experience that i will never ever forget and indeed it was.

Searching for Rabbits on top of Havagala (1400m)

Finally the monsoons seem to be over and it was all what I needed to stretch my muscles a bit. Following my last visit to Ihala Galagama I jotted down the name of beautiful mountain range called Havagala which is linked to the Ravana folklore “The arrow released in war games by King Ravana is said to have pierced seven mountains and penetrated two more mountain peaks.

Trip to GalOya National Park from Nilgala

It was Friday the 16th March. We set of at around 4 a.m. from Moratuwa on a three day excursion to Galoya National Park. Shahan had booked the Mahadorowwa camp site on the Nilgala side of the park. We were a crew of 12 in three vehicles.

A nocturnal trail to the summit of Bambarakanda

This whole idea of a “night climb” was in my mind for a while and was wondering where to try it out first. After evaluating the trails I have done already finally it was decided that I should try it on Bambarakanda first. The intention was purely based on excitement and the urge to try something different without following the same course as usual.

Knuckles Doovili Eli Through Walpolamulla

On top of the Manigala we could see Doovili Ella far away towards the Kalupahana range. That day we all decided to visit this somehow. Eventually we could visit all other water falls in the poem and hiked Manigala peak 3 times after that, but we couldn’t go to Doovili Ella, because it is difficult to reach that. There were only a very few who have done this hike and it was difficult for us to gather some information as well

Knuckles Experience 2012, Maningala Camping

So after work on a Friday we took the bus to Kandy from Pettah and reached the city of Kandy late night around 23:00 hrs. However the Tuk-tuk drivers who were there at the bus station were quite supportive and they dropped us at our guesthouse. The reason why we decided to take a night out at a guesthouse in Kandy is to save the day time of Saturday without having to travel all the way from Colombo to Knuckles on Saturday which will consume atleast half of the day.

A three day trip to Maha Eliya (aka Horton Plains) and a hike to Thotupola kanda

This time we went on camping at Maha Eliya and climb Thotupola Kanda. Originally we planned a hike to Kirigalpoththa but due to time constraints and weather conditions we climbed Thotupola

Wilpattuwa: Mesmerizing Tranquility of a Sanctuary

A Group of my friends organized a safari at Willpattuwa including a camp night at Kokmote to explore the exciting heritage and wildlife. A fellowship of ten members joined the trip and the journey began from Wadduwa at 7.00 am on September 11. On our way we paused shortly for a quick breakfast, and then to a shop at Chilaw fish market for necessary food supplies for the night stay. After taking a dip in the Deduru Oya and stuffing ourselves at Puttalam town where we stopped for lunch, we reached Wilpattuwa at 3.30 pm in a happy and relaxing mood. Mr Anil (WLD tour guide) and Samantha (Jeep driver) also joined with us at the entrance.
