Four day trip to Wilpaththu and Kalpitiya

We started around 5.00 am on old new year day and arrived at Dambadeniya around 7.00 am. Our plan was to visit Dambadeniya Raja Maha Viharaya and the kingdom. But it was raining heavily and we gave up the idea andproceeded further and came to Panduwasnuwara around 8.30 am.

මොණර-ගල පාමුල සැගවුණු වෙල්ලස්සේ දළදා මාලිගාව(Monaragala 520m)

I have been living around Moneragala for few months and it seems I’m surrounded by heritage and nature. There is a place called Mayuragiri Raja Maha viharaya 2Km’s close to my quarters which I thought I have visited in 2009 but after seen NG’s post I understood that I have visited the Mayuragiri hermitage but not the temple. So on a peaceful day I decided to walk towards this temple.

All over the Jaffna Peninsula – Part 1

Our first stop for the day was at the “Nilavara – Bottomless Well”. It is a big opening on ground filled with clean water. It is said that the depth of this well is unknown. There had been 2 formal attempts to find out its depth; one by a team from the Jaffna University and the other by a team from an US University, but both teams could not find the bottom of it.

Dambadeniya & Air Force Museum Ratmalana

After Yapahuwa trip I was so agitated to go see Dambadeniya too. Even though I’d been there before maybe 15 years ago, I still wanted to go and take some pics and see the place again. So I hastily arranged to go there even though the www.accuweather.com (you can trust this website to give a fairly accurate report, I always use this) website forecast was slightly rainy.

Up In the AIR

I had a dream to experience the oldest successful human-carrying flight from a very long time. In 2007 I inquired from one of the few providers in Sri Lanka in order to achieve this. At that time per person cost was 15,000/= which was not affordable and thought it is not worthwhile spending that much for a one hour ride. So, I gave up the idea. However in 2011 August there was an offer in a website which is famous for daily offers, for per person cost of 7200/= (60% off from their usual price).

Yapahuwa (4th Kingdom of Sri Lanka)

I’d always wanted to go see Yapahuwa as it is a very historical place and that famous Lion’s statue made me want to go there even more. So I hastily arranged the plans to visit Yapahuwa and on 07 May, my friend and I left Fort Station by 6.10 am train which goes to Batticaloa. (You can also take 5.45 pm train to Omanthai)

Delft – The Island of Rock Fences and Wild Horses

There is a boat from KKD to Delft at 10 am. But we were not going to be on that boat. Since we were on kind of an official visit we were privileged to have a special Navy boat waiting for us. It was a high speed ‘Water Jet’. Normally it takes around 1 hour for the boat ride to Delft. But the Water Jet flew over the sea completing the journey in less than 20 minutes.

Karagaha gedara – The Ambalama Rediscovered by “ඇත්කඳ ලිහිණියා”

Though the object village in the tale drama was situated at Uva province, the film location used by the producer was not far from us. Actually, it was located few kilometers off Narammala. The remote village where the community hall (Ambalama) existed was known as Karagahagedara. This is the story of how we explored the historical Ambalama at Karagahagedara.

A Four Day Trip to Jaffna & Mullathivu

The main purpose of this trip was to visit important places in Jaffna peninsula and our war-hero monuments. We also could observe the rapid development in Killinochchi, Mullathiv areas and the change of lifestyles of people after the end of 30-year war.

Katharagama – Haputale – N’eliya

We started the journey early morning 5.00am from our home in galle. Then got the breakfast at beach side in matara.
After then stopped at few places between matara and kataragama.reached kataragama at 2.00pm. We had accomadation at “paviveki visrama shala” in kataragama . this is managing by kirivehera and double room(two beds, ceiling fan) with attached bath room cost is Rs.375.00 per night

Exploring Meemure : Civilization lost in the wilderness

As this trip was arranged in a hurry there were only 3 of us committed. From the information we got from some of our friends, and Lakdasun we knew that transportation from Hunnasgiriya to Meemure is the critical part of our journey. The only transportation was two vans leaving from Hunnasgiriya between 1.30-2.00 pm. So we had to plan our trip to match with that. Two of us arrived to Kandy at 10.15 am and the other joined there. We did some last minute shopping to buy some stuff like noodles, Siddhalepa’s, and left Kandy at 11.00 am in a Mahiyanganaya bus
