The beginning of Sobasiri Team, Seven Falls Expedition

This the beginning of the SOBASIRI TEAM which is the combination of Me, Akila, and Malith, and later we welcomed Nirosh and Madusanka in 2014. This is not my very first adventure journey as I have started my adventure life in 2008 by visiting waterfalls around Kalutara area with my home town friend Jerom.

Magnificent 360° scenery at Kallebokka Viewpoint

Kallebokka 3600 viewpoint (height: 1,175m) became a trending destination after it was promoted by a certain TV programme. The summit is located right on the border of Matale and Kandy districts and shares the same ridge that forms Hathale min-worlds end and Hunnasgiriya mountain. The said ridge extends to the north and joins with western massif of Knuckles.

On a clear day, visitors can observe Central Highlands, Kandy City, Sembuwatte lake and Knuckles Mountains.

Visit to Pathahawatte Raja Maha Viharaya

The temple is now known as Sri Pushkararama Rajamaha Viharaya at Pathahawatte, Kothalawela is certainly an important piece of Raigampura Heritage – and not just for its religious significance.

Reachable by taking the right turn at ‘Kotalawela junction’ – near the 11th-kilometer post on Panadura-Horana Road, the entire land of the temple of 12 Hectares (5 acres), an archeological reserve since 1970, is surrounded by a huge wall of kabook. It is 2 meters wide and the height varies between 2 -3 meters. Given the depth of the foundation, the original height could have been easily twice of that. This wall dates back to either Kotte or Gampola period.

Adventure around Upper Mannakethi Falls

I did my first visit to Mannakethi Falls in 2012 and later I have visited it for only 1 time up to 2016. But in 2016, I had to visit it for more than 12 times and mainly with my HSBC staff members. However, I took only one hike to publish this post as this shows the wooden staircase which is not available now.

Once you go to the top of Mannakethi Falls, just have to walk upward of the stream. There are many natural adventure activities in this place as sliding, jumping, and swimming too. But always be careful when walking on the slippery rocks and beware about flash floods during rainy days.

Relaxed hike to Dothalugala Nature Trail & Rathna Falls

Dothalugala is a famous destination in Knuckles as the legal campsite also located over there. We went through the Dothalugala nature trail and few of us were going out of the trail for a few minutes to reach the summit of Dothalugala mountain which is height about 1574m. After we complete our trail we headed to Rathna falls and later on we explored Kaluwa Watunu Falls in the latter part of the evening.

Family Trip to Sembuwatte Lake

Sambuwatta Lake is a beautiful man-made reservoir located in Elkaduwa, Matale. The lake is bordered by Cambell’s Land forest reserve and situated at an elevation of 1,140 m. The misty and chilly atmosphere with pine trees and tea-covered slopes surrounding the lake make visitors feel relaxed and tranquil.

What puts the lake at the top as a leisure and family travel destination is the plethora of adventure activities available such as zip-lining, swan/motorboat riding, canoeing and hiking. Bathing and swimming in the lake, however, is not allowed since the lake is fairly deep (30 – 40 ft), there is a separate pool built for that purpose.

Family Trip to Miyunu Falls

The 60-meter Miyunu Ella waterfall is one of the two large waterfalls lying in the Kukulugala Forest (KF) is situated within the Western boundary of the Ratnapura district, Sabaragamuwa Province; and is located 15 km away from Bulathsinhala town. This forest ecosystem, which covers an area of 6000 acres within the Ayagama secretariat division, can be categorized as a low land evergreen rain forest. The dominant tree species are Dipterocarpus sp., Mesua sp., Doona sp., Schumacheria castaneifolia, Artocarpus Nobilis, Calophyllum inophyllum, Mangifera zeylanica, Humboldtia laurifolia, Oncosperma fasciculatum and Canarium zeylanicum species. Kukulugala mountain, also known as “Horanae Kanda (හොරණෑ කන්ද)” in Sinhala, is 705m above sea level.

Visit to Maligathenna Rajamaha Viharaya

The Maligatenna temple, Varana, and the Gal Vihara at Attanagalla were three historic places of Buddhist interest that we visited not long ago.

Not far from Colombo, about two miles from the Tihariya junction turning to the right, we came to Maligatenna rock cave temple, our first destination. We could see a small dagaba, right on top of a high mountain, shining white amidst the green foliage, set against a clear blue sky.

Visit to Pokunuwita Rajamaha Viharaya Temple

The Temple buildings were beautifully placed at different levels on a rock cliff. We walked up the slight incline to reach the old shrine room. We passed an ancient rock inscription and the Bo tree.

The paintings on its outside walls and the makara thorana in this little building is notable. Inside was a huge seated Buddha statue possibly of later origin. The origin of this Viharaya is believed to date back to the Polonnaruwa period. The Viharaya is said to have gained prominence during the days of Raigam Bandara.

Book Donation with AAT Sri Lanka at Galpitiya

Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT Sri Lanka) while being engaged in taking accounting education to grass root levels of the country, experienced a pleasant surprise in extending its humane hands to a worthy cause under the auspices of its first CSR project on the theme “AAT Samaja Mehewara (Social Mission)” through the intervention of social media. It happened as a result of responses by a Facebook group in reply to a suggestion published by the AAT Sri Lanka official Facebook page offering support to rural schools.

One of the longest hikes in Sri Lanka (Lebonan Estate to Rambukoluwa via KMP Wadiya , Thunhisgala and Duwili Eli)

Again here , it is me with another trip report . In this story again Aluva (Aluvihare) , my friend plays the major role. Aluva and me always needed to hike Thunhisgala down since we covered beautiful Kotaganga Cascades and Alugal-Lena during our last visit to knuckles mountain range.

Hunting Waterfalls near Colombo within a day. [Algama and Uduwaka Falls]

Since my last hike in knuckles range , I was unable go anywhere else for three months. But I was searching a lot about nice places to visit. Due to the rainy season it was impossible to do a good hike.
