Nature around Me

Most of us think that if we need to see wildlife and other interesting sceneries we must go away from our area. But if you are patient enough to explore your own garden for few minutes per day you will be amazed how much of beautiful creatures are found around you. Here are my own experiences. All of these were captured around my garden in Hikkaduwa and around. Unfortunately as I’m using a humble camera I missed most of the photographic moments of birds.

Backyard Guests

It all started two years ago. One beautiful evening, as the setting sun painted the sky in some amazing shades, my gaze stopped at two black silhouettes – A tiny couple perched on our mango tree. One of them, who looked to me like the “wife”, seemed quite mad with the “hubby” and had turned her back to him. The “hubby”, a bit hunchbacked with sadness or shame, looked like he was trying desperately to make her turn towards him. Chuckling, I rushed for my primitive camera, and captured this. Thus began my “bird life” and my photo collection of the lovely little “guests” who visit our garden and the paddy fields behind.

Nature at my Doorsteps

How many of us look around -and I mean really look around – our own neighbourhood for birds and other creatures?? We do love visiting parks, reserves and lakes – I do too! – but there are so many can be seen at our own doorsteps, even when living in a urban environment. Looking around properly started for me with the advent of a new camera in to my life about 2 years ago. The cam helped not only to capture, but also to later identify what I observed which made it even more exciting
