Getting down to Elgin Water fall

We started our journey from Nuwera eliya to Nanuoya station in the early morning. There was a train from Nanuoya to Ambewela station at 9.20am. It took 30-45 minutes to travel from Nanuoya to Ambewela.( 8Km) Elgine water fall can be usually seen when you are travelling in this railway route.

Caves with “Vedda” drawings and few other places around Dambagalla

This was one of those journeys I did few months a back while intending to visit some unheard rarely visited places but yet archeologically significant. Actually most of these places are within 20Km’s to my resting place so on a day with a clear sky I departed towards Dambagalla and proceeded towards Mari Arawa. I had to get down at Meegahapitiya to pay a visit to the ancient temple of Meegahapitiya.

Wadinagala Conquered, Fitness was checked once again

If there is a will there is always a way, the above text was quoted from my previous attempt to climb mount Wadinagala(බුදුන් වඩින්න ආ ගල = වඩිනාගල) which is the second highest peak of Gal Oya sanctuary. My desire was my driving force. As I have learnt over the years there are no dreams that cannot be achieved and this is one of those which I accomplished successfully. Wadinagala Mountain may be unknown to many people simply because it’s located in a wild life park.

All over the Jaffna Peninsula – Part 2

It was a Monday, the 4th day of our Jaffna visit. Earlier we were planned to go to Nainativu on the previous day and postponed it to the 4th day. The reason for that was we got to know the annual festival of the Nagadeepa Kovil was going on those days and Monday was the last day of it. So we wanted to be there for the final grand festival.

Relaxing evening at Arugam bay, a day at Lahugala & Mysterious Rajagala

This time our main focus was to explore the east. Our crew consisted of 4 including my-self. And others had explored batticalo, Oluvil area prior to meeting up with me on a Friday evening at Arugam bay Muhudu maha viharaya. After meeting up we enjoyed the beautiful landscape of Arugam bay coastal shores and hurried up towards the lagoon along the beach until we reached the newly built bridge and waited until the sun disappeared beyond the horizon.

All over the Jaffna Peninsula – Part 1

Our first stop for the day was at the “Nilavara – Bottomless Well”. It is a big opening on ground filled with clean water. It is said that the depth of this well is unknown. There had been 2 formal attempts to find out its depth; one by a team from the Jaffna University and the other by a team from an US University, but both teams could not find the bottom of it.

Dambadeniya & Air Force Museum Ratmalana

After Yapahuwa trip I was so agitated to go see Dambadeniya too. Even though I’d been there before maybe 15 years ago, I still wanted to go and take some pics and see the place again. So I hastily arranged to go there even though the www.accuweather.com (you can trust this website to give a fairly accurate report, I always use this) website forecast was slightly rainy.

Delft – The Island of Rock Fences and Wild Horses

There is a boat from KKD to Delft at 10 am. But we were not going to be on that boat. Since we were on kind of an official visit we were privileged to have a special Navy boat waiting for us. It was a high speed ‘Water Jet’. Normally it takes around 1 hour for the boat ride to Delft. But the Water Jet flew over the sea completing the journey in less than 20 minutes.

To see the Dooli Ella (Neluwa), exploring the Sinharaja forest through the Pitadeniya side and the beauty of the A17 high way

The main target of this one day trip was to see the Dooli Ella which is situated near to the Neluwa town. There is a very beautiful trail though the Sinharaja Forest reserve up to Deniyaya from Dooli ella through the Lankagama and Pitadeniya. Travelling along the A17 high way between Deniyaya and Rakwana was a very interesting one.

Wadinagala – Hidden heritage of Gal Oya Sanctuary (වඩිනාගල)

Let me start by giving a small introduction of the relevant area which I travelled on this journey. Wadinagala which is 2400ft in height was our main target and it has been on my mind for few months, it is located within the Gal Oya national park bordering Jayanthi wewa and the area is over populated by wild elephants. This peak is known to be one of the mountains which lord Budhdha considered before choosing Sri Pada.

3 Day Trip to Waulpane ,Pitadeniya Conservation Center via Sinharaja (වන නිවහන)

The drive to Waulpane was quite effortless. But the last 1KM or so was bit difficult. After stopping the van at end of the road (still you need to walk about 600m to the caves ) which was an very interesting journey. You need to find a giud to got to this otherwise if your not familiar with the place it’ll be difficult (negotiable the amount before you hire a guide) normally Rs.300-500
