Riverston and seven waterfalls

As my 2nd journey of my 2012 vacation I decided to take a trip to Matale to visit few cascading beauties around the area. As many of our members has done it is no means a hike or some sought of. But just a road trip where we went on search few places where you could find the waterfalls around the area.

Unforgettable Sinharaja Rain Forest

We started around 5.30AM from Colombo. We were 15 in the team 4 girls and 11 boys. Had to pick up every one and when we left Colombo it was around 6.15AM. We took the Southern Express highway. We exit from Welipanna exit point and traveled along Matugama Pellawatte Road about 75 Km. to Neluwa. 20 Km from Neluwa to Lankagama the place is just opposite Bharmaha Waterfall.

Hunting cascading beauties around Ramboda

Another annual vacation, and as usual didn’t wanna miss out on visiting few cascading beauties in our paradise island. I had to wait for week as there were no significant rain fall around the hill country since I arrived. As soon as I heard there were few showers in Ramboda area called up couple of my close friends and packed up our bags and off we went.

Pallan Hela (1065ft), A Fortress of King Saddathissa?

Since I landed at Iginiyagala I have noted one abnormal dome shape rock close to Pallan oya and one day while I was wondering around the dam of Senanayake reservoir I asked a school boy about this rock and he said to me “ඕක උඩ නටබුන් තියෙනව සද්ධාතිස්ස රජ දවසෙ කරවපු” which lit a bulb in my brain matter and the next thing he said is that he has a friend who knows in and out about this rock.

Jaffna – Micro Attractions

General attractions of Jaffna Penninsula are already covered adequately by forum members. So I don’t intend to repeat the same things other than exceptions. In fact, I was invited to join the trip as all others, except my wife, were first timers and in need of a guide. We started from Maharagama around 8.30 pm on the first day and reached Jaffna by 6.00 am on the second day. After checking in to our Rest, we immediately proceeded to Nagadeepa to avoid the expected mad rush.

Ampara to Pulukunawa along A27 in search of Heritage

On a peaceful day I arrived at Ampara and took the Maha Oya road towards Piyangala junction and got down near the temple. There were a fleet of steps which took me towards a well-built “Kutiya” with an inscription. At that time there were about 100 visitors howling around forgetting that this was a monastery where monks meditated.

Insight towards Hydroelectric Power from Uda Walawe to Samanalawewa

The primary purpose of this trip was to visit two different kinds of hydropower projects in Sri Lanka, to see the sites, equipment, mechanisms, etc. and learn about them. Enjoyed some other attractions on the way too. We got this opportunity as one of our friends is an engineer attached to Samanalawewa Hydroelectric power plant.

මහා වනයේ සැගවුණු මුලගම ගුහාව සොයා ගිය ගමනක් (Mulagama cave Expedition)

Mulagama cave was another random site I noted on a sheet of paper (1:50000 maps) within the Gal Oya Sanctuary and later on only I found the relevant details about it on Ellawala Medhananda Thero’s publication. I have been planning to visit this site for few months and I had been gathering information since then, finally my dream came true.

In and Around Inginiyagala with Monks

Iginiyagala is a well-known travel destination for most of us but have you’ll ever noted the mountain peak which forms one side of the dam? The summit of mount Iginiyagala(1035ft) is one of those most scenic points I have ever seen which is why I wanted to climb it so much. So together with few friends working at Ampara, I decided to give it a try on a public holiday

Ruins from Ampara to Mahaoya

The Distance between Ampara to Mahaoya is 60km. My objective of this journey was to visit at ancient places at A-27 road from Ampara to Mahaoya. Places were; Samanabadda rock cave shelter, Udayagiri ancient temple, Samangala hermitage, Rajagala ruins, Piyangala hermitage, Pulukunawa ruins, Aranthalawa

Two day trip to Rathkinda, long waited trip by our team mates

My mates start the trip from Colombo by 4am in morning and joined them from Ambepussa junction by 6.15am. 21 crew on a Toyota Coaster was our media of transport. We had everything for two days (Lunch, Dinner, breakfast is from bungalow) but we carried drinking water and things need for a BBQ dinner.

Beautiful Kotmale

It was a two day trip to beautiful Kotmale with its lush greenery, paddy fields and mountains and more importantly because Kotmale is steeped in history and tales of the past making it a very interesting place to visit.
