Mahiyanganaya road tour and dried waterfall hunting

This story is relating with my day 01 article about the night at Telgamu oya. On the second day we left from telgamu oya to Mahiyanganaya via the huge forest. Once we came to the Mahiyanganaya we went to the Sorabora wewa which was very famous in Sri Lanka as it made by a giant called Bulatha.

Ritigala-The giant of Rajarata.

Ritigala is the highest mountain of Nothern plane of Sri Lanka. It has significant archaeological and biological value.

2012 Yala, Nimalawa Sanctuaries and Salterns of Palatupana

This was a special journey because this was my first ever wild life safari to Yala. Though I have been to Yala on foot during the Pada yathra walk, I always wanted to do a safari too. I was invited by Sheham who was a good friend I met because of Lakdasun and I happily joined him on this venture.

Scenic Hike to Wangedigala

After reading several posts in Lakdasun we decided to do this hike. But holidays were just passing and finally we decided to make this on a weekend. So we took the Ratnapura bus from Mawanella early morning. But when we reached Bus stand they said as it was a holiday the bus will not run. So we got into a Colombo bus and get down from Kegalla.

Re-discovering the Balane Fort

I had read about it, heard about it but never seen it, could not find a single picture of it but I knew it existed, an archaeological site that is less known but of high importance in the fight for survival of our country; this is non other than the Key to the Kandyan Kingdom; the Balane Fort

My backyard filled with surprises.

It is fascinating what you could observe around your own residence sometimes! some people travel to places to see wild life but if you are observant enough there are plenty of things right at your doorstep. This is a collection of images taken around my second home while having a chat in our garden. The canal which lies at the boarder attracts many birds and its a great pleasure to walk along it when the water levels are low.

Trip to Piduruthalagala Summit

I see this mountain from faraway almost every day but had not got a chance to climb it until one day my father said “Get ready, tomorrow we are going to Piduruthalagala”

Around Srilanka in 80 hours, a motorcycle adventure

It was one of the dream trip for Dhanushka and myself to Go around Srilanka on our motorcycles. We thought why not call it “Around Srilanka in 80 hours” and to circumnavigate around Srilanka in less than 80 hours. We decided to leave on 18th February 2012, Dhanushka rode 35 km from Colombo to Negombo and we both left around 11am. The plan was to ride to Jaffna and stop over for the night.

Hidden Buddhist monastery of Rajarata – Manakanda (මානාකන්ද)

I got to know about Manakanda (381.3m) from an article written in the book called Wanasena wanapeth (වැනසෙන වනපෙත්).Then one of my friends lives in Maradankadawala (මරදන්කඩවල) joined with me for this journey.
I reached Maradankadawala about 11am by Colombo-Anuradhapura bus. (A9 Road).

Riverston and seven waterfalls

As my 2nd journey of my 2012 vacation I decided to take a trip to Matale to visit few cascading beauties around the area. As many of our members has done it is no means a hike or some sought of. But just a road trip where we went on search few places where you could find the waterfalls around the area.

Evening at Nagalakanda (706m)

You can reach Nagalakanda from Pollonnaruwa archeology site. Once you pass the Minneriya town it is situated in about 200m towards the Colombo on right hand side. If you are coming from Colombo, it is in left hand side just before Minneriya town. Better to ask from villagers. But it is easy to find.

Memorable journey to OHIYA

Ohiya is a rural village and one of the most scenic and coolest places in Sri Lanka. Normal temperature is less than 12 Celsius. It’s a lonely and sleepy town. The entire town consists of two boutiques and the railway station only. Nearest town by road is Boralanda (10 KM). Nearest Petrol shed is Welimada (22 KM).
