  • Hiking Bambarakanda to Horton Plains

We leave Colombo by hired van at around 7AM and able to reach Bambarakanda rest at around 1PM. After having lunch we started to climb. We go alone the road heading to top of Bambarakanda falls. The road goes through the Udaweriya tea state.

Before getting dark we were able to reach near the devil’s staircase. On a side of a road in a level surface we were able to put up our two tents. It’s a beautiful full moon poya day. We can clearly see the bright stars all over the sky.

Next day morning we get up before sunrise to see the beauty of the surrounding area. The road we came leads to the Ohiya. But our objective is to reach Horton Plains by shortest path. From there onwards we go through foot paths on tea plantain and able to reach the road in-between Ohiya entrance and Far Inn. On the way we cook some noodles using small gas cooker and had our lunch.

At about 5PM we were able to reach our camp site inside the Horton Plains (Camp Site 2). And that night is a very cold sleepless night. And next day morning we were very tired after long journey and had some rest. For that day we have booked the Mahaeliya bungalow. In the afternoon we had a cool bath from one of the water streams.

Next day morning we started to climb down to Dayagama. There’s a road leads to Dayagama just before reaching Far Inn from Pattipola side. This road is not much scene till you reach the border of Horton Plains. In the border there’s a kovil. After that it’s a tea plantation. We had called the van to come there but road conditions are too bad. Therefore we had to walk some more kilometers. After few kilometers there’s a waterfall named Agra falls. We had a cool bath from there. At last we were able to catch the van and came home.
