Tips, Notes and Special remarks
  • Need to have cloths for all seasons such as misty cold (two layers of cloth for the chest), sunny (light cloths with a hat) and most importantly cold rain (a good rain coat with a head cover)
  • Comfortable pair of shoes or sandals (or even slippers)
  • Dry cloths and a pair of slippers for change on your way home so that you could travel back dry and comfortable
  • Adequate food and water for the whole hike because there are absolutely no place to get food between the Visitor Centre at Horton Plains and the Bambarakanda Rest by the Bambarakanda Falls
  • If you are looking for full meals for affordable prices during the trip, then count on the shops at Nuwareliya. (We had breakfast there at 7 am and dinner at 9 pm.)
  • You would greatly benefit from starting your hike at the trail head at least about an hour or two earlier than 11 am if you want to get to Bambarakanda falls before 5 pm.
  • A 1-inch map of the intended hike was very handy to appreciate our location each time we were overwhelmed by the panoramic Sri Lanka.
