Last week end I had opportunity to spend two days in tiny jungle hamlet in foot of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Here is that memorable story.
We leave Kandy at 11.00 a.m. in the morning and reached our destination after four hour journey and our crew was 08.
We all are warmly well come by my companion in the village and few of us starting to prepare camp site and set up the camping tents before falling the dusk. Others are ready to prepare dinner at my companions’ house.
The camp site is located at edge of the village bordering to the river. Other bank of the river is belongs to Knuckles Conservation Forest and dense forest spreads as far as eye can see. After having dinner at my companions’ house we reached our camp site and spend night at there.
I wake up early in the morning next day and set up my bird watching equipment’s for birding. I had opportunity to spot many bird species around the camp site.
My companion had prepared our breakfast in his chana land and we have taken it there. It was a large chana land and 08 families are cultivated different types of crops there. Among these Eringu (Corn) & “Kurakkan” (Ragi) are prominent crops.
We have spent few hours in chena land and then return to my companions’ house for preparing lunch. After preparing lunch we had bath in the river and take our lunch at camp site. Then we have check out from camp site and return home at night.
It was fantastic & memorable experience for all of us. Since all have experienced and feel simple life style of traditional Sri Lankan village away from busy city life.
