  • Quick Visit To Kanneliya ( Bio diversity Hot Spot )

This was arranged as a family trip as I wanted to take my parents and my brother and his wife to a relaxing, less adventures place close to nature. They had been complaining that “Umba hamadama thaniyama trip yanawa..Apiwath enkkan yanawako” So I picked Kanneliya . Our plan was to visit much easier (with minimum duration) trials as Cave, Giant creeper and Anagimala falls and stay the night there and return home next day. In fact I returned same night as I had an exam next day.

We left Battaramulla around 6.00 a.m. Road was fine up to Matugama . Then onwards it was difficult .We had to limit our speed 20-25 km even less at some places due to bad conditions. Due to low ground clearance I had knocked silencer on some parts and it was cracked and needed to repair. We spent nearly 2 hours at a welding garage at Pitigala. So my opinion is Galle- Udugama road is better although it is nearly 30 km more.

It was 12.00noon when we reached Udugama . We had some King Coconut at friend of my father’s place. He is Mr. Siriwardene (Brother in law of the owner of Kanneliya Forest Resort). There was a wedding ceremony at K.F.R. at the date we fixed.Since we didn’t want to change the date he had arranged us a place called Kanneliya Mount Resort. Because of the 30 year friendship with my father he arranged the lunch and dinner from K.F.R. for Free (ha ha…don’t message me to arrange free meals ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

This is the best place to stay if you couldn’t arrange K.F.R.

You can view the Kabbale Kanda from here clearly as this place has higher elevation. This was constructed nearly 3 months ago. Calm place .300-400 m before Kanneliya. Clean bathrooms. They have a scenic small tea estate where you can have a little walk. Owner of K.M.R. is Mr. Anura Jayalath (077 2090457)

Due to the tiredness of a long journey first thing we did was have a bath in the stream in front of Kanneliya entrance. After a good bath we returned and had lunch. After that we entered Kanneliya around 3.00 p.m. Our Guide was Gunadasa.

  4. Huge Nawoda Tree
  5. Narangas ella
  6. Kabbale kanda

Entrance fee is Rs. 28/- per person
Charges for the guide for a trial depends on what you select.(Range is Rs.300-600).
Ex:-We had to pay Rs. 300/- for Cave ,Anagimala Falls and creeper. We finished the trial less than three hours. Since there were six of us ( including my father’s friend) Cost per one person was (300/6) + 28 = 78/- ( with the small tip for the guide it was just above 100/-)
