  • Scenic hike from Ohiya to Bambarakanda

We started our journey from Colombo Fort at 5 am and took the Podi Menike train to Pattipola. We reached Pattipola around 2 pm. After having our lunch and finding accommodation, we started hiking towards Thotupola kanda. But the bad weather and lack of time forces us to abandon it and we returned to Pattipola around 7 pm.

On the next morning we woke up early and took the night mail train which arrives at 4.30 in the morning to Pattipola. After reaching Ohiya we had our breakfast and took some food and water for our journey. From there we walked towards Horton plains.

After walking about 5kms we took a left turn and started climbing down through tea estates and reached the small waterfall on top of Bambarakanda falls around 12.30pm. After having some food we climbed down through the Pine forest and reached the majestic Bambarakanda falls. Then we had a nice bath in the cold water and it really eased the tiredness.
