A One Day Trip to Handover House to Poor Family in Athimale

We start to built a house for poor family in Athimale – Siyabalanduwa. Less than 2 months we completed the house. On January 29th we went to handover the house for family. We started our journey on 28th January at 11.15 p.m & we reached to Athimale at 6.00 a.m. First we visit to see the family’s Dream Home & handover the house for them. It is very memorable moment in our life.

Mysterious paintings at Kurulangala & Rock carved Buddha Statues at Budupatunna.

The day I did the ‘Nil Diya Pokuna’ exploration, I was eager do the Kululangala too. Once I thought should have done with Nil Diya pokuna exploration, but this can be done in one shot (not on the same day). I buzzed trip partner, Kasun Janaka. He is always ready for adventures trips. So read the trip report by Ashan and called Methananda to check the weather. Everything was on the positive side. And also I remembered Kasun Des was telling about Budupatunna.

A One Day Trip to Discover Buttala

On 16th December I went to Athimale to find details about poor family in Athimale. I took Athimale bus from Pettah Bus Stand at 10.10 p.m. It reached Monaragala at 4.30 a.m. Again it leaves Monaragala to Athimale at 5.00 a.m. It reached Athimale at 6.15 a.m. After that I took three wheel to went to see that family. After get all information from that family I left Athimale from 9.30 a.m.

Expedition Budupatunna : in search for lost heritage

It was an exciting and fresh morning. After a good night sleep followed by the heartwarming hospitality by the villagers and some hours of listening to interesting folklores, we were ready for our main mission of the visit. By 6.30 am Ashan joined with Theshantha who took the night bus from Colombo to Athimale were at the doorstep.

Heritage around battered Kotiyagala and Hidden Frescoes of Mailla

There are days when you plan to go somewhere and end up been at another place, this was one of those days. My main objective was to find Vila Oya Budupatuna but ended up visiting few other places I never intended to do so. My journey starting point was Monaragala, so early morning I took the first bus towards Kotiyagala and got down at 5th milepost junction to inquire about Vila oya budupatuna but unfortunately no one had ever heard about the place, so I had to call my friend Theshantha to get some help because he knows the region better than me

Wattarama Monastery – වටේටම ආරාමයන් තිබු නිසා වට්ටාරම නම් විය

This was actually my second visit to Kotiyagala area and I also had some secondary objectives also on this visit. So on a Sunday morning I got in to a Kotiyagala bus and left towards kotiyagala. Just before kotiyagala there was a three way junction where the Siyambalanduwa, Kalu obba-Athimale road extension met with the kotiyagala road and I had to get down from here and start walking towards Athimale side since Wattarama monastery is located between Athimale and Kotiyagala.

විල ඔයේ සැඟවුණු බුදුපටුන (Hazardous expedition in search of Budupatuna)

Wila Oya Budupatuna was a totally unheard place to me until few weeks back when I came across a post by NG on Lakdasun which made me go in search of these mysterious statues similar to Buduruwagala. The only information I had was about Two Japanese (archeologist) teams visits in 1985 and 90’s and some photographs in a book called ELOQUENCE IN STONE.

Kebaliththa (Kebiliththa) Devalaya

If I explain to you the very little I know about the devalaya, this place is considered very sacred by devotees of God Katharagama . They believe that the God’s present staying place is the ‘Maha Siyambalawa Devalaya’ (Kebaliththa). I’m too believe that without any doubt. There are so many ‘Haskam’ which I cannot explain here. People at Kotiyagala respect this place very strongly and they are even scared to deal with this place. So I listened to their word and prepared my self as per the customs which they told that we have to follow.
