Rail hike from Nattandiya to Chilaw – 21 Km
I did not have a desire to do a rail hike along Puttlam line though it is very close to my home but, I tempted to do it by seeing the photos of Ashan’s rail hike from Chilaw to Puttlam. |
Chilaw to Mundalam rail hike
In 2015 I shifted to Chilaw from Monaragala and I was seeking for places to travel. When I was in Uva I was fond of hiking along the railways and ended up doing rail hikes covering Badulla to Nawalapitiya by foot. So I was wondering what this coastal line would provide me with. |
වෙරළ දිගේ 1 – Walk along the beach from Thoduwawa to Chilaw -18 Km
This is my first experience of beach walk from Thoduwawa to Chilawa about 18km with crossing of Deduru Oya estuary. Beach walk is very interesting to share experince of fishermen’s life. |
Bicycle Touring – The Coastal Road to Jaffna (503.66Km)
Back in October of 2011 I had this bright idea of cycling to Jaffna. The easiest way of doing this was to travel on the A9, but then again that would be so boring and the whole point of riding to Jaffna was not complete the journey from point A to point B but to enjoy journey and experience the solitude and the care free way of travel. The only road that meets my expectations is the Costal road; this road hugs the western coast line of Sri lank all the way to Jaffna!! |
Panirendawa ancient Iron ore and few wetlands of chilaw!
Hmmm! Thought of doing a report after a while and this is one report I couldn’t finish off last year! Im really happy my second home is not in an urbanized area like Colombo and there are plenty of places to hang around whenever I visit there. Chilaw area (Pitigal korale) is known to have 999 lakes which belong to god “Thaniwelle” and few of them are known for their bird life. I will be posting few snaps taken at those locations and if I haven’t mention the name of any bird that’s because I don’t know it or can’t recall the name. |
My backyard filled with surprises.
It is fascinating what you could observe around your own residence sometimes! some people travel to places to see wild life but if you are observant enough there are plenty of things right at your doorstep. This is a collection of images taken around my second home while having a chat in our garden. The canal which lies at the boarder attracts many birds and its a great pleasure to walk along it when the water levels are low. |
A Journey Along Kurunegala – Chilaw Road
It was a day with mixed weather but I decided to go ahead early as possible since I had few places in mind and almost all were close by to Chilaw – Kurunegala main road. First destination was Munneshwaram which is about 3Km from Chilaw town and well known all around the island for its festivals. Fortunately it was not festival season this time of the year so I walked about peacefully in the kovil and I noticed that the new kovil has surrounded the old one completely |
Fully Loaded Bicycle Touring 247.38Km (Colombo – Chilaw – Kurunegala – Colombo)
It was 5.10 in the morning when I left my home in Colombo. I exited Colombo using the bridge connecting to Handala and went along the Uswetakeiyawa road towards Negambo. For the most part the road was in very good shape and was able to reach Negambo by 8am. |
The road to Sethawadiya, Kalpitiya and dolphins
A week end trip to Kalpitiya was planned as a family vacation. The main attraction was the dolphins but some detours to see interesting sites on the way were also in the itinerary. |
