Mystery of Waduwa Ketu gala & kingdom of Dambadeniya!
It was a while since we walked around, so both of us decided to visit Dambadeniya and return back before dawn. Though Dambadeniya was not far from Chilaw we had to take 5 buses to reach there ;-D . Our main target was a famous rock called “Waduwa ketu gala” which has an interesting folklore. I never thought this could be climbed until one of our fellow Lakdasun members climbed it. So Lahiru was the one who gave me all the information I wanted before attempting this steep climb. |
Dambadeniya & Air Force Museum Ratmalana
After Yapahuwa trip I was so agitated to go see Dambadeniya too. Even though I’d been there before maybe 15 years ago, I still wanted to go and take some pics and see the place again. So I hastily arranged to go there even though the www.accuweather.com (you can trust this website to give a fairly accurate report, I always use this) website forecast was slightly rainy. |
Exploring the forgotten Kingdom of Dambadeniya
Dambadeniya is located in Kurunegala district, hiding a ruined ancient city. It has been the capital for more than five decades in ancient Sri Lanka. Much of the ancient city is still lied burring on a huge fortified rock. Dambadeniya was the third capital in ancient Sri Lanka. (1233 – 1283 A.D.) It was crowned by four kings. The pioneer King Wijayabahu-III (1233 – 1236 A.D), builds his royal palace on the rock at Dambadeniya & converted it to the capital of the country in 1233 A.D. |
