Exploring the West Waterfall of Walawe River

Exploring the west fall of the Walawe river is in my list for more than 6 years, I know this fall from the book written by Dr Ebehad Kawutsh (A Guide to Sri Lankan Waterfalls). But due to the forest path difficulty mentioned in the book I postponed this for several times. But on this day I explored the waterfall deeply surfing the google maps satellite and 3D maps. Then I found that I don’t want to start my hike from Mulgama village and have the dangerous forest hike around where the wild elephants are roaming.

Waterfalls in A4 road (Rathnapura to Balangoda)

This is the continuation of waterfall hunting along A4 road from Rathnapura to Balangoda.

The Tallest & Many Others – Tour de Waterfalls 11…

I immediately felt better and at the sight of Bambarakanda Falls, the tallest girl in SL, made my day. She had more water, at least more than my last visit, and was looking radiant in the morning. We parked the vehicle and went inside for a warm welcome by Mrs. Mayakaduwa and her daughter Erandi who served us with tea and coffee. We were staying in one of the two cottages there. The walls were built using mud and had the look of a typical rural house. It can easily accommodate 8-16 people and has 4 rooms and a large living area and a verandah as well. Two washrooms are located at the back and with hot water.

We unpacked and got everything ready while they prepared our breakfast, Rotti with a Dhal Curry and Lunu Miris. Some cowpea was also served with freshly scraped coconut and we had a bellyful breakfast and were ready to go. It was so good to see Ranjith again and together we left for our hike that turned out to be tougher than we anticipated.

Hunting cascades continues (Pelmadulla to Imbulpe)

The Monsoons seems to be coming to an end and most of the waterfalls were at full flow so the temptation was too much that I could handle so finally decided to give it a shot though I was not feeling very well. As usual within few minutes after the idea popped out I gave a call to Lahiru who simply loves waterfalls and he was in to it within no time. So as planned we met on the next morning at Avissawella and took off earlier than expected.

Waterfalls, the Endless Desire (Rathnapura to Balangoda)

It has been a while since I have visited few waterfalls, so on a Sunday I decided to have a quick tour around Rathnapura following Inter-monsoon showers. This quick trip was planned within 4 hours on the previous night of the journey. While planning was going on I gave a call to see whether Lahiru (another waterfall fan) was available and he was ever so ready for another waterfall hunt. At around 6am we met up at Avissawella and started on our quest in search of cascades which we mapped out on the previous day.

On the road from Colombo to Bandarawela – Part I

School holidays! Its trip time once again. We were getting back home to Bandarawela from Colombo….. a trip that we had done many, many, many times before. But, this time my father and mother suggested that we visit all the interesting places along the route so that I could write a Trip Report on the journey
