3 Days Trip to Donate Books to Dambarella Village Library & visit Nearby Important Places

We received a request from rural village in Angunukolapelessa area. They request books for their village library. We started collecting books from friends & relatives from last September.

Day out at Kolonna Doowili Falls complex & Maduwanwela Walawwa

Road condition up-to Panamura is quite good with carpeted road…. But after passing 2-3kms road become old tar road with on and off road constructions. As there were no big pits on the road, easily motorable by a car with less speed. One has to beware of the edges of the road as road constructions and erosions have caused considerable height difference….

One day trip to Madunagala (Mahapalassa)

Madunagala/Mahapalassa is getting tourist attraction (both local and foreigners) due to presence of hot water springs. I have noted few recent reports in Lakdasun forum and stimulated me to visit there. When I was searching information about hot water springs, I could find some other tourist attractions of this area.

HOT WATER SPRINGS @ MADUNAGALA, EMBILIPITIYA

Madunagala hot springs are a wonderful creation of nature in all its natural beauty. Historically these hot springs flowed into a natural water hole. The reason being that are these thermal waters contains medicinal properties to cure ailments like skin eruptions and other rheumatic pains.

Trip to Embilipitiya

This was a long awaited trip to Embilipitiya for my personal matters. Then I decided to visit at some places on the way to Embilipitiya and following whole day was used to visit at places at Kollonna. Later I went in another separate day to visit at some places at Godakawela.

Morning Side – Heaven on Earth

It was in July while we were at Birds’ Paradise, Kudawa touring Sinharaja, Nimal the owner of the place told us about this wonderful place. He really is a nature lover and after realizing our enthusiasm about the nature, he encouraged us to visit this place and then and there we decided to visit in December.

The Caving Expedition – Waulpane (Wawulpane) ‘FEB 2011

Back in 2011, February I myself along with another 02 well experienced trekkers decided to explore the Prehistoric world of “Waulpane” which dates back to approx 500 million years..!! We started Early in the morning from Colombo and by mid-day we reached the rendezvous point close to Pallebedda.

Went South once again…

If you take the back roads rather than the coastal road, the environment is quite different. We were rather surprised to find such a lot of lovely wawes. When we passed Lenabatuwa wawe (between Akkurassa and Kamburupitiya) it was too late for photos but it seems a very very lovely place. There is a little guest house just on the side of the wawe which looked like a potential base. There was a board for the Lenabatuwa Bio Diversity Park and someone told us that walking in the forest is quite interesting. It certainly looked lovely.

A Three Day Trip to Palatupana and Yala

We started our journey at about 5.30 A.M on 3 rd December from Colombo. Our crew consists of 10. (6 adults of between 45-55 and 4 children between 14-23.) Our first stop was at Kuruwita for our breakfast. After the breakfast we drove through Rathnapura, palmadulla and turned right to A 18 road and again turned off At Madampe and went through Rakwana, Sooriyakanda and Kolonna to see the Maduwanwela walawwa. During these days they have been commencing the restoration work of the old building.

Investigating the Waulpane (Wawulpane) Lime stone cave

On the Ratnapura to Ambilipitiya road between Godakawela and Pallebedda junctions, there’s a road to the right side which leads to Kumburugamuwa. From the main road, you need to travel about 13km on a mountainous narrow road to reach Waulpane village. Unfortunately, I wasn’t tracking the road on GPS, but remembered to mark the location.
The cave is owned by bats (100s of them) and is very very dark. Cave ground has at least an inch thick bat droppings, may be a bit less on the path where people usually walk
