Visit to Galle Fort

Galle Fort (Sinhala: ගාලු කොටුව Galu Kotuwa; Tamil: காலிக் கோட்டை, romanized: Kālik Kōṭṭai), in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 432 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

Historical Gall Fort /ගාලු කොටුව

Galle Fort is the largest fort built by Europeans in Sri Lanka and it is a UNESCO world heritage site. There are a lot of stories behind the fort.

A One Day Trip of Katina Pinkama at “Weduwa Aranya” in Koggala

We start our journey on Sunday 4.30 a.m & we reached to Koggala around 6.00 a.m. First we went to see Aranya premises. It was situated in very beautiful place & surround by river.

Jungle Beach – Hidden beauty of Southern coast!

It was an unplanned trip. We got Hayleys Holiday Bungalow for spend a weekend. this gave me the opportunity to visit Galle and the see the attractions around. We were able to visit Galle fort and Jungle beach during the trip.

Lungs of the South – Kanneliya & Treasures of Galle

Once upon a time, I came across this very unusual name “Kanneliya Forest Reserve” and since then, I couldn’t stop myself being told over and over again, “must go see, must go see”… Well, that mantra has reaped its benefits coz I managed to visit this beautiful lady on 24 & 25 March.

Explore the Grandeur of Ancient Galle

Even though we live very close to the city of Galle, we didn’t explore the grandeur of the city very closely. So we decided to look close at the Galle Fort and explore the living beach of Koggala and Martin Wickremasinghe memorial folk museum.

We started our journey from Hikkaduwa railway station at about 8 am and got a bus to Koggala from Galle. We reached to the exciting beach of Koggala and had our breakfast at well maintained beach park about 9

Visit to my Home Town – Galle

During the leisure time I’ve spent @ my parent’s place, I’ve planned to visit the 126Km long Colombo Matara Southern Highway (HW), which is still under constructions and almost 99% completed in Galle Akmeemena area. This (HW) allows Sri Lankans to travel between the two towns in less than 1,1/2 hours journey. That is half the present travel time along the age-old narrow coastal road. Same day in the evening around 17:00hrs had a 2 hours visit to the Gall Dutch Fort/ Rampart to enjoy some play time with my 2+ years daughter & photography
