Knuckles Kirigalpoththa (1647m) is another prominent peak in Knuckles range and well known for misty cap all over the year. This is our one day hike to this lesser known mountain in a clear day. |
One day hike to Kabaragala (1506m)
Kabaragala is the highest peak of the Dolosbage range which has a height around 1500m. It has an almost flat terrain at the top similar to Horton Plains and there’s a huge drop similar to the World’s End as well. |
Quick ride in search of Sudugala Falls and Wawegama Lake
Sudugala and Wawegama are the attracts located between Nawalapitiya and Galboda. We can visit these places within a short time period. Sudugala is the popular waterfall and a Wawegama is a lake with beautiful surroundings. During my trip to Wewelthalawa I saw a Welcome board at Ulapane which tempted me to do this trip. |
Hiking Kabaragala – The Highest Peak of Dolosbage (1506 M)
Kabragala is a mountain in the Dolaosbage mountain range. It has the highest summit point in the range. Hiking Kabaragala became one of my ‘must do’ hike after seeing the Nadegura Documentary and Ashan’s Report. We planned several times and couldn’t do the hike due to bad weather. |
Defying the Adverse Weather – Tour de Waterfalls 14…
However it didn’t appeal to Hari and we made plans hastily for Mandaram Nuwara. There was very little information about this mysterious place and we had to make do with what little was available. Credit must go to Hariya for planning the whole thing and we deliberated long and hard how to get there in the first place. Not having anyone else, it had to be just the two of us. Going by bike had to be ditched at the eleventh hour due to the rains and earth slips. So finally we decided to take the road via Kandy by bus. Getting Hariya up was as easy as lifting an elephant out of a well in an abandoned paddy field. Finally I picked him close to 5am on the christmas day, while most of the country was still under the wraps trying to get some warmth from the partial wintry chill. We went to the bus stand in Pettah while the rain kept its pace. There was an A/C bus that left for Kandy at 5.30am. |
A Drive Through Knuckles, Meemure & Rathna Ella
So on the 16th 2 of us left Delgoda at 4am picking up the 3rd member on our way from Dambadeniya. By about 6.30am we were at kurunegala and proceeded towards ibbagamuwa as we intended to take the dodangaslanda – yatawatta road to matale. |
Mandaramnuwara, Piduruthalagala and Return to Nuwaraeliya
The journey started from different locations by my friends. Kandy Bus stand was the meeting point. I started from Ambalangoda at midnight and reached kandy at 6.00 in the morning. The others were there on time. We took padiyapalalla bus. The bus arrived in padiyapalalla at 8.00 am. There was a small town to buy our foods and other basic needs. We took Mandaram nuwara bus from there at 8.45 am. |
“I came, I saw, I conquered” – Highest peak of Dolosbage (Kabaragala 1506m)
Almost one week after the peacock hill adventure, it was time for another hike. Mount Kabaragala was an unknown mountain for me until one week back when I first saw it while I was on top of Monaragala. I had no idea about the geography and how to conquer it. Only few google images, survey departments map information and few photographs which I have taken few days back, were there for my aid. Kabaragala is unique in the sense it’s the tallest mountain peak of Dolosbage range and it has an almost flat terrain on top of it which makes you feel that you are walking in heaven. |
