Back to Yahangala (1220m)

Yahangala/bed rock is the mountain with unique shape of a bed situated at eastern edge of Knuckles massif. This rock related to Rawana legend. King Rawana’s body was kept here for last respect following he became unconsciousness by arrow flew by Rama’s bow.

ගැරඬි ඇල්ල (Gerandi falls) the extreme hike

This year appears to be different because it seems like I have found my long lost passion on waterfalls. After my first visit to Bambaragan oya and Ellagala, I decided to do another similar hike which was in my to-do list for many years. This time it was a cascade of waterfalls called Gerandi ella (not the one at Tawalamtenna). Two years back while browsing on FB I noted an album on these waterfalls posted by Dr Sudesh Chulani and since that day I did want to repeat the same feet he achieved.

Trekking from Thangappuwa to Kalugala with Alugal Lena camping

This is part of my dream trip and part of Harinda’s dream. On my way to Kehelpothdoruwegala climbing I heard about a foot pathway from Kalugala to Meemure. Harinda has noted a foot pathway from Alugal Lena to Meemure in his Alugal Lena trip. We wanted to combine these two trails and do it in two days with camping at Alugal Lena.

Ududumbara to Rathna Ella along Hasalaka oya

This year the monsoon seems to be getting late letting me venture around more and more taking the upper hand of it. There was an old post on a trail from Udu dumbara to Rathna falls which was hanging around my long list for many years. So I thought of giving it a shot. With few calls Sri, Danushka and Lahiru were in to it. It was supposed to be an easy hike which was 2.5Km’s.
On the previous day I reached Mahiyanganaya and loitered around in the evening enjoying some unseen water bodies called Dambarawa lake and Mapakada lake.

Waterfall Festival…

The road took us passing the Kehelgamu Oya which was in over flowing condition forming creamy white foams and running mischievously passing rocks. We had to stop for a pic. The sky looked gloomy and threatened to rain at any moment but we were not swayed by that.

This rock is not a place to mock around and it’s not an easy hike at all, it’s also believed to be a holy place protected by the local god (ගලේ බණ්ඩාර දෙවියන්ගේ ගබඩාව). There have been many incidents where the god have punished travellers & locals who was wondering about with a bad intent (stung by wasp, elephant attacks, lost in the jungle, etc)
