Nikawatawana(නිකවටවන) 420m scenic peak..

Last year when we were at Wewala wewa we noted this lovely twin peak mountain which was also seen from the banks of Kandalama tank.

Hot Air Ballooning

Hot air ballooning is not very much familiar in Sri Lanka as it costs high. But this activity is very popular among tourists. Because there are many foreigners directly come to have this facility since it is low cost as per their budget.

75 Places in 17 Days Mega Tour – Day 10 – 12

We leave from Minneriya around 5.00 p.m & our next destination was Sigiriya. We stay in our relatives place in Sigiriya. In the evening we went to Kandalama wewa & have a good time in water. Next day morning we went to Sigiriya.

Yakkuragala – යක්කුරාගල (600m)

Yakkuragala was an isolated mountain with height situated in Dambulla area in between Dambulla-Matale (A9) and Dambulla-Bakamuna (බකමූණ) roads. As it has no archeology or historical importance, no body tries to climb it. Locals only visit there to pluck “Gal Siyambala”. Later I knew they also miss their return pathway once they reach the mountain.

Villagers believe “Yak Ura’s” (‍යක් ඌරා)-Devil Pig’s footsteps can be seen on the mountain. Therefore it is called Yakkuragala. But actual Yakkuragala is situated closer to the main Mountain.

Gal Koth Kanda (631m) ගල් කොත් කන්ද

Gal Koth Kanda got my attention in my Erawulagala climbing. (Refer report on) There was a triangular shape mountain next to Erawulagala and it was a separate mountain from Erawulagala range. I got to know it as Iththakanda but that name was wrong. Then people at Erawula inappropriately name it also as Erawulagala.

View point of Kandalama-Erawulagala ඈරවුලගල (695m)

This mighty rock was noticed when I was at Menikdena. It was situated closer to Kandalama Lake. I definitely knew it can be a good view point of Kandalama lake and surrounding area. Later I came across the archeology site called Kaludiya Pokuna (This is not the famous Kaludiya Pokuna at Mihinthale) also situated at base of the Erawulagala Mountain.

Hot Air Ballooning in Kandalama

This year annual office trip was planned to Sigiriya in November. Luckily it was the season for ballooning. When I mentioned the possibility of hot air ballooning to the trip organizers they managed to negotiate a bulk discount of 50% with one of the operator called Air Magic. It was still expensive but we thought “worth doing” at LKR 9000 per person!
