Camping at eastern edge of central Hills-Cocogalla Mini World’s End
Sheer drop of eastern edge of central hills-Lunugala (2465feet) creates this beautiful place. It is situated at Roeberry tea estate and descent is about 1250feet. The most immediate village at the base of this drop is called Dorabada; therefore people call it “Dorabada Pathalaya” (දොරබොද පාතාලය) as well. |
Kalugala 1450m where 5 provinces could be seen
Kalugala is a location on the northern point of Madulsima range which consist of two peaks and out of those Kalugala no 2 is the highest. Kalugala No 1 peak belongs to Monaragala district and is the highest point of Monaragala. I have been eyeing on this for few months and out of nowhere the anticipated day arrived. |
Eye camp at Kohonnawala
eading Sri’s report made a few of us think of getting the wheel chair that was needed by the little boy in Kohonawala. With Sri’s help we made contact with the Hamuduruwo to get a bit more information. During the conversation he spoke of many older people who had bad eye sight but were unable not get spectacles. So could we arrange for something to be done about it? |
Bambaragala Pathana, Namunukula & Attractions around Ella
The five-day holiday following Vesak Poya was a long awaited event in the calendar and we planned to venture into an area that we have never explored – Namunukula and Ella. Ella of course we have passed many times en route from Wellawaya, but Namunukula was a totally new destination. |
The forgotten path to Bibile from top of Mini Worlds end
Mini world’s end of Elamanna is the best out of all four known worlds’ ends in SL for me and that’s why I visited the same place thrice within a period of one year. This time though I was lucky because there was no mist and I did enjoy the full view which I was craving for. On the previous two days I had hiked strenuously by visiting Udawadiya, Lunugala peak, Bambaragala pathana, Kohonawala villege and to add on to that I had to walk 18 more Km’s to achieve something I dreamt of. |
Loitering Around Passara
We got off the train from Badulla in the morning after a long 12 hour journey. The list of “must do” in Uva province was getting longer ever since Ashan started roaming in Uva and his reports started flooding into the Lakdasun forum. We were hoping to cover a few of those places and 5 of us were on a hiking trip, hoping to do 3 trails in 3 days. Our accommodation was close to Passara so we quickly did shopping and got into a Passara bus. |
Rural Kohonawala where the sun rises at 9am and vanishes at 3pm
Have you guys heard about a village located in the valley of Loggal oya where they do not have a road even and they have to climb an abyss to get to the nearest city (Madulsima) for 3 hours. Yes still our fellow citizens do live in the dark where even some of the basic facilities are not available. The sun is seen only at 9am and it vanishes in few hours at around 3pm, even when the sun could be seen the thick layer of mist covers it off and deprive them with their right to enjoy the sunlight. And yet these 200 odd people have managed to survive happily despite all of their troubles. After some recent media programs these people have got some hope and they are looking forward for a brighter future. |
Two days in Heaven (Madulsima to Pitamaruwa)
I have heard and seen some stunning images of a waterfall in a rural village in Uva long ago and I was tempted to visit this waterfall which is the 3rd highest in Uva and winning the 7th place considering all other waterfalls in Sri Lanka. So again it was a gamble with overcast conditions. First day I decided to spend the night at a friend’s place close to Madulsima. |
Visit to the Mini world’s end at Passara – Cokagala (Cocogalla)
The by-road started from the junction at Lunugala Police station, turned in to a hilly & narrow one within the first kilometer in distance. Condition of the road was acceptable because it had been repaired recently. Having climbing the hill, we came to a place known as Janathapura, a small village on a gap of two ranges of mountains. Janathapura was a three way junction. There were two roads at the western face of the range. (We came from the Eastern face). |
