Solo ride from Ja-ela to Great Western

There was a special visit at Jetwing Hatton bungalows on that day and I left early morning around 5.30 am from Jaela and wanted to be at Hatton at 9 am. I was heard that Sripadaya can see near to Jaela Highway entrance but never had time to go there in the early morning. Since the sunrise wasn’t happening I thought to go and see whether Sripadaya is visible to that place.

Dimbula / Gongalla mini WE to රාවනා ගල

Both of us badly needed to go on a road trip and due to the unfortunate situation around Central province we had to take a huge detour to reach our destinations.

Nawalapitiya, the interchange for Waterfalls

Nawalapitiya is like a inter change for many beautiful places in central province. Here are some information about the routes connecting with Nawalapitiya town.

The Dell Mountain (1860m)

After tackling Bopaththalawa in the morning we decided to head towards the elusive Dell Mountain. I saw this mountain for the first time when I was hiking Great western 6 years back and ever since that I have been staring at it on my successful attempts to Adams peak.

Waterfalls from Nuweraeliya to Thalawakale

We have reached Nanu Oya (නානු ඔය) railway station in early morning by night mail from Colombo and waited till dawn comes. Glassaugh Falls were seen in distance and we started to walk towards Radella (රදැල්ල) station. (Same direction we came)
According to Sri’s report there is a significant cascade down the bridge closer to Nanu Oya railway station. We attempted to reach the base of the falls just before the railway bridge and it was failed.

So Close, Yet So Far – Tour de Waterfalls 16…

After the journey to Mandaram Nuwara and then to Victoria & Randenigala, I was feeling lonely and jittery. I’m sure Hariya would have thought differently but couldn’t ignore the proverb, “make hay while sun shines”. Watching TV was an agony, and news only managed to rouse the adventurer in me showing all the overflowing reservoirs, tanks and waterfalls. When they showed St. Claire in full flow, my heart not only missed just one beat, but quite a few. How wonderful even to see her come alive on TV. I was craving for the big moment. The news once again showed that the spills of wretched Upper Kotmale Reservoir were open so I could wait no longer. The next morning I called Morgan, and found out St. Claire was really blooming.

Petals along the railway (Nanu oya to Nawalapitiya)

It was long ago I did a rail hike that was in February. So with the upcoming long weekend and been clueless, I decided to do a 3 day rail hike which I had to fast track to two days because Kasun invited me for another trip. Doing 65 Km’s for two days is more like a rail run but guess what I didn’t miss a thing. Walking speed was around 4.2Km’s/hour and I have never walked on a road even that fast. As most of you’ll know this stretch is not known for any special locations or scenery but I found out that there was lot to offer. My main focus was on flowers, may be wild or grown at stations as garden flowers, so please forgive me for adding many images of these beauties.

Sri de Lakdasun – One Year Anniversary Celebrations amidst Heavy Rains with Angels

It’s been a year ever since Sri de Lakdasun was born and I wanted to celebrate his first birthday in an unforgettable way. He’s now beginning to stand on his own and even say a few words such as: Waterfall, Hike, Mountain, etc. It’s been so nice watching him grow bit by bit and learn things as the time goes on

Hiking “The Paradise”

From the beginning of this year I had planned to do a hike along the Bambaraknda – Ohiya track. August was my target month and I was thinking of doing this on my own even if my friends would not join me (I thought they might not be interested in a long hike). But surprisingly they all agreed to join me and were quite interesting in this hike.

Chasing Waterfalls

On the 18th two of us left delgoda at about 4am and picked up the other two crew members from ambepussa and we were past gampola when the sun was rising above the mountains. It was a beautiful morning with a slight chill in the air and the scenery that unfolded before us when we drove past nawalapitiya on the talawakelle road was simply amazing.
